The Florida Panthers contingent played a big part in the Atlantic Division’s 4-3 win over the Metropolitan Division, but it was the Pacific Division that took home the million dollar prize at the NHL All-Star Game in Nashville.
Jaromir Jagr and Aaron Ekblad scored and Roberto Luongo stopped 8 of the 10 shots he faced before giving way toBen Bishop in the Gerard Gallant coached Atlantic’s 4-3 win over the Metro. Jagr’s breakaway goal tied the game at two and Ekblad’s conversion of a sweet Ryan O’Reilly feed tied the tilt at three before Montreal’s P.K. Subbanbagged the game-winner.
After the Pacific outgunned the Central 9-6 to gain the other spot in the final, Jonathan Quick and John Gibson combined to shut out the Atlantic Division to take the crown. Corey Perry scored the decisive goal, beating Bishop at the 13:38 mark. Luongo stopped all 12 of the shots he faced in the final, including a jaw-dropping save on Joe Pavelski.
Fan favorite John Scott was voted tournament MVP to cap off the fesitivities in fine fashion. Next year’s All-Star Weekend will take place in Los Angeles.
The Panthers get right back at it tomorrow with a road game in D.C, against the Eastern Conference-leading Washington Capitals.
