The New Jersey Devils acquired forward Luke Evangelista from the Nashville Predators on Tuesday. Nashville received a conditional first-round pick and a second-round selection in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft. New Jersey previously received the conditional first-round pick from the Calgary Flames in a trade for defenseman Simon Nemec on June 23. Evangelista had a career-high 56 points (12G/44A) in 81 games with the Predators in 2025-26.
The New York Rangers singed unrestriced free agent forward Eeli Tolvanen to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million. In 2025-26, Tolvanen put up 12 goals and 24 assists in 78 games with the Seattle Kraken.
Ryan Getzlaf will have his number (15) retired by the Anaheim Ducks during a ceremony at Honda Center on January 30. Getzlaf is the leading scorer in Ducks history, amassing 1,019 points in a franchise-record 1,157 games while also becoming the team’s career assists leader and its top playoff scorer. He was Anaheim’s captain for his final 12 seasons, the longest tenure in team history.
Calgary forward Jonathan Huberdeau suffered a setback in his recovery from hip resurfacing surgery, according to general manager Craig Conroy in an interview with Jock Wilson on QR770 radio. The former Florida Panthers star was shut down in late January and finished last season with just 10 goals and 25 points in 50 games. Wishing Huberdeau the best in his bid to get heathly and back on the ice.
