The Ottawa Senators have re-signed veteran forward Claude Giroux to a one-year contract with a $2 million base salary that can be worth up to $5 million in bonuses. In four seasons with the Senators, Giroux, briefly a member of the Florida Panthers, has missed just one regular season game. He scored a career-high 35 goals in 2022-23 and followed that up with 21 the next season.
Restriced free agent defenseman Simon Nemec inked a five-year contract worth $36.25 million with the Calgary Flames. Nemec will count $7.25 million against the salary cap through the 2030-31 NHL season. The Flames acquired his rights and forward Maxim Tsyplakov from the New Jersey Devils on June 23 for a second-round pick in 2026 (traded to Chicago), two conditional first-rounders and prospect Etienne Morin.
The Nashville Predators signed defenseman Justin Barron to a one-year, $1.575 million contract. Nashville qualified Barron, a restricted free agent, prior to the deadline on June 30. With this contract, both sides avoided arbitration. Barron collected nine assists in 52 games for the Predators while battling multiple injuries in 2025-26.
