Fortune favored the bold as the St. Louis Blues pried defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway away from Edmonton as the Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets the two restricted free agents signed last week.
Edmonton will receive a 2025 second-round pick for Broberg and a 2025 third-round pick for Holloway as compensation.
After the announcement the teams made a trade that saw Blues send a third-round pick in 2028 and prospect Paul Fischer to the Oilers for future considerations.
These are just the third and fourth offer sheets that weren’t matched in the salary cap era.
The Seattle Kraken signed restricted free agent center Matty Berniers to a seven-year contract worth $50 million. Berniers won the Calder Memorial Trophy in 2022-23 after producing 24 goals and 57 points as rookie. Last season, he finished with 15 goals and 22 assists in 77 games.
