The Florida Panthers get another much-needed day off before they continue their road trip against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night at SAP Center.

Last night, the Boston Bruins crept a little bit closer to the Cats, moving into third place with a 2-0 win over Ottawa at TD Garden thanks to Joonas Korpisalo’s 29-save effort. The Detroit Red Wings doubled up the Montreal Canadiens by a 4-2 count, and the Buffalo Sabres fell 5-2 to the Calary Flames. Former Panther Jonathan Huberdeau had a goal and two assists for the Flames.

On Wednesday, the Charlotte Checkers blanked the Iowa Wild 4-0 at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to end a two-game losing streak. Rookie Cooper Black made 32 saves to post his first professional shutout. John Leonard, Sandis Vilmanis, Justin Sourdif and Miklus Hovorka scored the goals. Rasmus Asplund, Will Lockwood, Jaycob Megna, Patrick Giles, Michael Benning, Oliver Okuliar and Trevor Carrick collected assists. The Checkers will play two against the Milwaukee Admirals, tonight and tomorrow.
