We have a trade…
The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired center Cody Glass from the Nashville Predators for next to nothing yesterday. For taking Glass (and his $2.5 million cap hit) off their hands, the Predators also threw in a third-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2026. The only piece going back to Nashville from Pittsburgh is undrafted prospect Jordan Frasca, who spent most of last season the ECHL with Wheeling Nailers.
Glass brings two qualities that Penguins are in short supply of, youth and size. The 25-year-old had a career-best season in 2022-23 (14 goals, 35 points) for the Predators in 2022-23, but saw his numbers dwindle to six goals and seven assists in 41 games last season.
Our cross-state rivals, the Tampa Lightning have begun a multi-stage sale process that will see the team sold for somewhere around $2 billion. The purchaser is believed to be Doug Ostrover, the co-founder and CEO of Blue Owl Capital. Current owner Jeff Vinik will retain full operational control of the Bolts for the next several years. Vinik will continue to have a significant stake as part of the new ownership group. Upon closing, the deal will surpasses Ottawa’s $950-million sale to Michael Andlauer as the largest in NHL history.
New York Rangers play-by-play man Sam Rosen announced he will be retiring after the 2024-25 NHL season. Rosen, who took over from Jim Gordon in 1984, is one of the best in the business. His talents will be missed.
