The Winnipeg Jets and Pittsburgh Penguins swapped top prospects yesterday with the Jets sending Rutger McGroarty to the Penguins for fellow forward Brayden Yager.
After the trade, the 20-year-old McGroarty, who played the last two seasons at the University of Michigan, signed an entry-level contract with the Penguins. He put up 52 points in 36 games as a sophomore last season.
The 19-year-old Yager, who had already signed an ELC with the Penguins in July, has amassed 250 points over the last four seasons with the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League.
McGroarty was selected 14th overall by Winnipeg in the 2022 NHL draft whle Yager was picked in the same slot by Pittsburgh in 2023.
