Thursday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Tomas Hertl scored the game-winning goal with 10:51 remaining in the third period as the San Jose Sharks completed a sweep of the Anaheim Ducks with a 2-1 win at SAP Center. Up next for the Sharks are the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

Sidney Crosby and Phil Kessel each had a goal and an assist and Matt Murray stopped 26 shots for his second shutout of the postseason in the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-0 rout of the Philadelphia Flyers. The Penguins head back home to Pittsburgh with a three to one lead in the series.

NIkita Kucherov scored twice and added an assist in the Tampa Bay Lightning’s 3-1 win over the New Jersey Devils in Newark. Kucherov scored the go-ahead goal with 4:58 left in the first period and added the clinching empty-netter with 68 seconds left in regulation. The Bolts took a commanding three games to one lead on the Devils.

The Nashville Predators jumped out to a big lead before holding off the Colorado Avalanche for a 3-2 win in Denver. Filip Forsberg, Colton Sissons, and Craig Smith scored for the Predators before Gabriel Landeskog and Alexander Kerfoot pulled the Avalanche back within a goal with third period tallies. Nashville leads the series three games to one.

In a cool bit of organizational news, for the first time in sixty years, the AHL’s All-Stars will be coming to Springfield, MA. The 2019 AHL All-Star Classic will begin with the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, January 27, featuring the following events: Puck Control Relay, Fastest Skater, Rapid Fire, Hardest Shot, Accuracy Shooting, Pass and Score, and Breakaway Relay.
