Tuesday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Tomas Nosek converted a beautiful backdoor pass from Shea Theadore 9:44 to snap a 4-4 tie and then added an empty-netter with three seconds remaining as the expansion Vegas Golden Knights took Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final with a wild 6-4 win over the Washington Capitals.

The two former Florida Panthers on the Golden Knights were involved in the outcome. Reilly Smith scored a goal and added an assist and Jonathan Marchessault drew a helper on Smith’s second period tally.

The QMJHL’s Acadie–Bathurst Titan claimed the 2018 Memorial Cup with a 3-0 over the host Regina Pats on Sunday night as the Brandt Centre in Regina. It was the first Memorial Cup win for the Titan, who  started off life in 1969 as the Rosemont National. Anaheim Ducks prospect Sam Steel led all scorers with 13 points (2G/11A).

The addition of the Vegas Golden Knights not only provided each of the NHL’s 30 clubs with a $16 million expansion fee check, but the revenue they have pumped into the league will help deliver the largest salary cap increase since 2014. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said Monday the current projection for the 2018-19 salary cap upper limit remains between $78 and $82 million. (TSN)
