Panthers add forward and another goalie in final round of NHL Draft

The Florida Panthers finished adding to their prospect pool by taking high school center Patrick Shea and NAHL goaltender Ryan Bednard in the seventh round of the 2015 NHL Draft.

Shea scored 19 goals and added 20 assists in 33 games for New Hampshire prep school KImball Union. The Marshfield, MA native stands 5’11” and weighs 185 pounds. Shea is slated play for the University of Maine in the fall.

Bednard, who is soon off to Bowling Green University, played in 37 games for the NAHL’s Johnstown Tomahawks, posting a 2.66 GAA and .913 save percentage. He also suited up in one game for the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms. Bednard has good height, standing 6’4″, but needs to add weight to his lanky frame.

As final round selections, both Shea and Bednard are long-term prospects who will need to get plenty of seasoning in the NCAA before they are ready to turn professional.
