Panthers prospect Chris Clapperton and Rimouski fall 7-4 to red-hot Quebec

The Quebec Remparts posted their tenth straight win with a 7-4 road victory over the Rimouski Oceanic in game one of the QMJHL President’s Cup finals. Florida Panthers prospect Chris Clapperton registered one assist and finished the game with a -3 rating.

Arizona Coyotes prospect Anthony Duclair scored twice and added a helper for Quebec while teammate Kurt Etchegary also contributed three points on a goal and two assists.

Michael Joly powered the Rimouski offense, scoring three of the club’s four goals. Clapperton, a fifth-round pick of the Cats in 2013, drew the primary assist on Joly’s final tally at 14:24 of the third period, which pulled the Oceanic to within a goal at 5-4 before the Remparts put the game away late.

The assist was Clapperton’s 17th point of the playoffs (9G/8A) for the Oceanic, who lost for just the second time in the postseason.

Zachary Fucale stopped 25 shots to post the win for Quebec. Rimouski’s Louis-Philip Guindon got the start and gave 4 goals on 19 shots before giving way to Philippe Desrosiers, who took the loss. Desrosiers turned aside 16 of the 18 shots he faced in relief.

Game two of the series is Friday night in Rimouski.
