Florida Panthers recall Garrett Wilson from AHL Rampage

The Florida Panthers have recalled winger Garrett Wilson from the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL.

This will be Wilson’s second stint with the big club after playing three games last season. Wilson failed to pick up a point in those three contests.

The 23-year-old forward, who was drafted in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, is enjoying a fine season in San Antonio, with 18 goals and 11 assists in 53 games. He has bagged 36 goals in 161 career AHL games.

The Cats play tomorrow night in Chicago and one would expect Wilson to be in the lineup. It remains to be seen if this move signals a trade of one of the Panthers’ pending UFA forwards or if the club’s brass is simply looking for some added scoring punch. It could also mean that someone got nicked up in Pittsburgh and the team has absolutely no intention of trotting Sean Bergenheim back out of the press box.
