Panthers release David Booth from PTO, send three down to AHL Portland

The Florida Panthers have released David Booth from his professional tryout contract. Booth, the club’s last 30-goal man, was trying to earn a second stint with the Cats after playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.

Fellow veteran Martin Havlat, the other player in camp on PTO, remains in the mix for a spot in the lineup on the opening night.

In other roster news, Florida assigned forward Shane Harper and defensemen Michael Matheson and Mackenzie Weegar to the Portland Pirates.

Matheson and Weegar made a good impression and will get further seasoning in Portland. Harper, who scored 32 goal for the Chicago Wolves last season, stuck around the longest among the AHL-targeted veterans that Dale Tallon signed this summer.
