Saturday Caterwaul: Barkov out indefinitely

Aleksander Barkov had knee surgery on Friday and will be lost to the Florida Panthers indefinitely. Barkov is set to miss the entirety of the 2025-26 regular season and the 2026 Olympics in Italy. Let’s cross our fingers that Florida’s captain will somehow be able to be back for the playoffs, but with the time frame for his return set at 7-9 months, it’s not looking good. This is a huge blow for the two-time defending champions, who are looking to become the first team to win three Stanley Cups in a row since the early 1980s.

Prospects

Olof Glifford posted his first win and shutout of the season in IK Oskarshamn’s 8-0 rout of Modo Hockey in action from Sweden’s HockeyAllsvenskan.

Shamar Moses registered one shot on goal and took a roughing minor in the North Bay Battalion’s 3-1 OHL preseason loss to the Ottawa 67s.
