Saturday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Offseason Open Forum

Florida Panthers prospect Jonathan Ang lit the lamp in Canada’s 7-4 win over Sweden at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Plymouth, MI.

Ang and Canada will take on the United States tonight at 7 p.m. on NHL Network in the final game of the showcase if you need a hockey fix.

According to CapFriendly, Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie’s Weegar’s new deal will pay him $675K at the NHL level and $85K if he is in the minors.

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed two of its recent draft picks, Morgan Frost and Isaac Ratcliffe, to three-year, entry-level contracts.

Frost was taken with the 27th pick in the first round of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in Chicago. The 18-year-old posted 20 goals and 42 assists in 67 games with the OHL’s Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last season.

After taking Frost, the Philadelphia selected Ratcliffe, a left wing, in the second round (35th overall) eight picks later.  Ratcliffe totaled 28 goals and 26 assists in 67 games with the Guelph Storm of the OHL.

The Dallas Stars re-signed restricted free agent defenseman Jamie Oleksiak to a one-year, one-way contract worth $964K. The 24-year-old suited up in 41 games with the Stars in 2016-17 and produced 5 goals and 2 assists to go along with 37 PIM.
