Saturday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

The Florida Panthers contunue preparations for tomorrow’s preseason doubleheader versus the Nashville Predators at Amerant Bank Arena. With a pair of games on tap, 40 of the 54-man training camp roster will get to suit up on Sunday.

Panthers prospect Simon Zether centered the second line and scored the game’s final goal in Västerås IK 5-3 loss to IF Björklöven in the season-opener for both HockeyAllsvenskan squads. The Panthers selected Zether in the fourth round (129th overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Goaltender Olof Glifford (159th overall in 2023) made 18 saves in backstopping HV71 to a 5-3 win on home ice over Färjestad BK in action from Sweden’s J20 Nationell. Glifford raised his record to 3-3 on this season. He sports a 3.58 GAA and .880 save percentage.

Defenseman Luke Coughlin finished with a minus-one rating in Rimouski Oceanic’s 2-0 loss to Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the season-opener for both QMJHL teams. Coughlin was selected in the sixth round of the 2023 draft.

2023 seventh-rounder Stepan Zvyagin was held off the score sheet in Dinamo Molodechno’s 3-2 win over Aviator Baranavichy. Zvyagin was the left wing on Dinamo’s fourth line.

Restricted free agent forward Dawson Mercer signed a three-year deal worth $12 million with the New Jersey Devils. Mercer produced 20 goals and 33 points while playing all 82 games with the Devils last season.

The Utah Hockey Club signed forward Dylan Guenther to an eight-year contract extension worth $57,142,856. Guenther will play this season under the final year of his entry-level contract. The 21-year-old scored 18 goals and 17 assists in 45 games for the Arizona Coyotes in 2023-24.
