Saturday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Friday the thirteenth brought us seven new NHL contracts, including he of the mighty beard, Joe Thornton signing a one-year deal with the Florida Panthers.

Before we get to the other six, the National Hockey League announced start times for all 2021-22 regular seasons, so if you go to the Cats official site and look up the schedule, you will see that the times have been added. Florida’s home games during the work week start at 7 p.m. while most of the weekend home games start at 6 p.m. There are afternoon home games against the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers.

The Seattle Kraken have signed defensemen Cale Fleury and forward Carsen Twarynski and to one-year, two-way contracts – both skaters were restricted free agents. Twarynski was the new team’s selection from the Canadiens and Twarynski from the Philadelphia Flyers in the expansion draft in June. Both players are strong possibilites to be on the Charlotte Checkers this season. (Kraken NHL)

The Columbus Blue Jackets signed forward Zac Rinaldo to a one-year, two-way deal. Rinaldo, who has 374 games of NHL experience, appeared in four scoreless games with the Calgary Flames in 2020-21. (1st Ohio Battery)

Columbus also signed Stanislav Svozil to an entry-level contract. The Blie Jackets selected the Czech defenseman in the third round (69th overall) of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. (Blue Jackets NHL)
