Florida Panthers: second-game playoff record
It's an admittedly limited list, with a scant three playoff seasons to browse through but worth a peek heading into Sunday's Game Two matchup against New Jersey (7:30 p.m., MSG+/NBC-SN). The Devils hold a 1-0 lead in the series; how have the Florida Panthers historically responded in the second match?
1996 - Fourth Seed in Eastern Conference
- Round One: Defeated BOS 6-2 in Miami; FLA takes 2-0 lead (won series 4-1)
- Round Two: Lost 3-2 @ PHI, series 1-1 (won series 4-2)
- Round Three: Lost 3-2 @ PIT, series 1-1 (won series 4-3)
- Round Four: Lost 8-1 @ COL (lost series 4-0)/
1997 - Fourth Seed in Eastern Conference
- Round One: Lost 3-1 to NYR in Miami; series tied 1-1 (NY won series 4-1); Rangers advanced to Conference Final (fell to PHI 4-1)/
2000 - Fifth Seed in Eastern Conference
- Round One: Lost 2-1 @ NJ (lost series 4-0), Devils advanced to Stanley Cup Final (defeated DAL 4-2)/
Overall, the Cats are 1-5 in second-games, though 1-1 on home ice. Further muddying the waters, Florida had come away victorious in four Game Ones (obviously not the case today), which only adds to the triviality of such statistics. Throw in the fact that no one has ever played a second game at the BankAtlantic Center, and one begins to see how pointless all of this realistically is. As noted above by employing the word "historically", we're looking at ancient history.
