Florida Panthers select Juho Lammikko with the No. 65 selection in 2014 NHL Entry Draft

Starting the day without a choice in the third round, Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon worked a trade with the New York Islanders to acquire the 65th pick of the draft, (sending their 2015 3rd-rounder to NYI) and used it to select forward Juho Lammikko. The power forward from Finland played in the u20 SM-Liga last season, and put up 42 points in 37 games with Assat. He uses his size and powerful stride to move up the ice and protect the puck, and has a great shot that he can unleash from a variety of locations. He also has a nose for the net, and make plays in traffic. He compares to NHLer Kyle Okposo, and looks to be a top six winger at the NHL level. I must admit, I’m pleasantly surprised that the Panthers traded up to make this pick. Lammikko is a big, talented winger who adds scoring pop that the Panthers currently lack.
