Florida Panthers sign defensemen Cameron Gaunce and Brent Regner

The Florida Panthers did make any major moves on the first day of free agency, but they did continue to add players with an eye towards the Portland Pirates. The Cats announced they have come to terms with defensemen Cameron Gaunce and Brent Regner this afternoon.

The 25-year-old Gaunce played 73 games for the AHL’s Texas Stars last season, posting totals of 4 goals and 10 assists to go along with 113 PIM. he won the Calder Cup with Texas in 2014. Gaunce was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the second round of the 2008 draft. He has 20 NHL games, 11 with the Avs and 9 with the Dallas Stars, to his credit and has appeared in 344 AHL games.

Regner suited up for the Chicago Wolves last season. The 26-year-old appeared in 71 games and tallied 6 goals and 23 assists to go along with a team-best +21 rating. The Westlock, AB native was drafted 137th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Regner is a veteran of 388 AHL games, but he has yet to make his NHL debut.
