Florida Panthers Spencer Knight backstops USA to 5-3 win over Canada

Three starts, four goals allowed, .950 save percentage, one shutout, but most importantly three wins. That’s the stat line for Florida Panthers goaltending prospect Spencer Knight, who backstopped Team USA to 5-3 comeback win over Canada in the final game of the World Junior Summer Showcase.

Down a goal after twenty minutes, Nolan Foote and Joe Veleno beat Knight 1:47 apart early in the second period to put Canada on top, 3-2. With Canada trying to extend its lead on a power play, Knight was called upon to make a huge save and he was up to the task, denying fellow 2019 first-rounder Kirby Dach with his left leg.

K’Andre Miller would tie the game later in the frame and Joel Farabee  and Ryan Johnson would light the lamp in the third to push the U.S. to the win.

Knight finished the game with 28 saves, including 9 in the decisive final stanza.

Serron Noel registered two shots on goal, took a high-sticking minor and finished with an even-rating for Canada. Noel totaled two goals in three games at the showcase.

In the earlier game on Saturday, Sweden skated to a surprising 6-3 win over Finland.

With his strong performance this week in Plymouth, look for Knight to be the starting goaltender for the Americans at the 2020 World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic.
