Sunday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Florida Panthers prospect Kasper Puutio drew the secondary assist on the game’s first two goals in Finland’s 4-2 win over USA Blue at the World Junior Summer Showcase.

Puutio, a fifth-round draft choice (153rd overall) in 2020 finished the game with three shots on goal and +2 rating.

The 19-year-old appeared in all six games for the Finns at the event and produced one goal, three assists, 11 shots on goal and 4 PIM.

2021 first-rounder Mackie Samoskevich had the primary assist on Logan Cooley’s power-play goal 43 seconds into the third period, which pulled USA Blue within a goal.

Samoskevich registered a game-high (tied with teammate Matthew Knies) five shots on goal.

The 18-year-old appeared in five games at the WJSS and totaled one goal, three assists, 17 shots on goal and 4 PIM. He played in three games for USA White and two games for USA Blue.

Ty Smilianic took part in USA White’s 7-1 loss to Sweden. Smilanci finished the game with no points or shots on goal and posted a -1 rating.

The 74th overall pick in 2020 played in five games at the WJSS and scored one goal, registered a total of six shots on goal and took one minor penalty. He played in four games for USA White and one for USA Blue.
