Sunday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

While the Florida Panthers stood pat on Saturday, there were a smattering of signings across the NHL.

Mackiln Celebrini, the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, signed an entry-level contract with the San Jose Sharks. The Hobey Baker Award-winner finished his only NCAA season with 32 goals and 64 points in 38 games for the Boston University Terriers. 

Artyom Levshunov, who was chosen right after Celebrini, inked an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. The defenseman produced nine goals and 35 points in 38 games as a freshman with Michigan State Spartans. He could spend the upcoming season in the AHL.

The Philadelphia Flyers signed forward Jett Luchanko to an entry-level contract. Luchanko was selected with the 13th overall pick in the first round. He scored 20 goals and added 54 assists in 68 games with the OHL’s Guelph Storm.

Forward Ilya Protas signed an entry-level contract with the Washington Capitals. Protas was selected in the third round (75th overall) by the Capitals. He put up 51 points in 61 games with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL.

The Capitals also inked defenseman Cameron Allen to an entry-level contract. Allen was taken in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft. Allen appeared in just 25 games with the Guelph Storm, producing two goals and seven assists.

Restriced free agent defenseman Logan Stanley signed a two-year, $2.5 million deal to remain with the Winnipeg Jets. Stanley played in 25 regular season games (1G/1A) and made three postseason appearances during the 2023-24 season.

The Jets also inked restriced free agent forward David Gustafsson to a two-year contract worth $1.67. million. Gustafsson potted three goals and added four helpers in 39 games last season. He made four playoff appearances and scord a goal during Winnpeg’s first round loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
