Penguins hold serve, series shifts to Nashville
Despite getting outplayed for much of the game (again), the Pittsburgh Penguins exploded for three goals (again), this time early in the third period to take Game 2 with a 4-1 win over the Nashville Predators.
Jake Guentzel, Scott Wilson and Evgeni Malkin scored in the opening 3:28 of the final frame to power the Penguins to victory. Guentzel’s goal ten seconds in was his second of the game and second game-winner of the series.
Matt Murray made 37 saves for the Penguins, while Pekka Rinne was pulled after Malkin’s goal and finished with 21 stops. Juuse Saros turned aside both of the shots he faced in relief. Pontus Akberg notched Nashville’s only goal to open the scoring.
Game 2 Highlights
In Florida Panthers news, the team announced that they will be taking part in a four-team prospects tournament from Sept. 9-12 at Germain Arena in Estero, FL. The Washington Capitals are the hosts with the Nashville Predators and Tampa Bay Lightning also participating.
