Florida Panthers trade Keaton Ellerby to Kings for 2013 Fifth Round Pick

A first round selection in 2007, Ellerby has been traded to the defending Stanley Cup champions for a fifth rounder acquired in an earlier deal.

The 10th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, defenseman Keaton Ellerby, 24, has been traded to the Los Angeles Kings for a fifth-round pick in 2013. The selection was acquired by the Kings in a previous deal with the New Jersey Devils for Andrei Loktionov.

In nine games this season with the Panthers, Ellerby led Florida in penalty minutes with 36, had no points, posted a minus-two rating and averaged 15:11 minutes of ice time per game. The 6-4" 190lb blue-liner is slated to become a restricted free agent after the season.

So, who benefits the most by this? Tyson Strachan has obviously earned a more secure spot among Florida's defensive regulars in recent days.

Good deal for the Cats?
