Tuesday Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Offseason Open Forum

The Boston Bruins and forward David Pastrnak have been unable to reach a contract extension this summer and former NHL general manager Brian Lawton believes the standoff could lead to the winger leaving Massachusetts. Could the Florida Panthers put together a package enticing enough to bring the talented, young Czech to Sunrise if he is indeed on the block (which seems hard to believe)?

Sticking with the Atlantic Division, the Toronto Maple Leafs waived defenseman Alexey Marchenko. The 25-year-old Marchenko played in 25 games with the Leafs after being scooped up on waivers from the Detroit Red Wings on February 4.

Former Montreal Canadiens forward Dwight King has signed a two-year with Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg. King, who won two Stanley Cups with the Los Angeles Kings, was traded from the Kings to the Habs in February for a conditional draft pick.

Personally, I thought King might be a good bottom-six candidate for the Cats to bring in on a training camp PTO, but that won’t be happening.

Goaltender Marek Mazanec has signed with HC Slovan Bratislava of the KHL less than a month after signing a one-year extension with the Nashville Predators. According to a release from the KHL club, Mazanec and the Preds mutually agreed to void the one-year, two-way contract he inked on July 21.
