Gameday 24: Florida Panthers vs Calgary Flames

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta & Todd Little

The Florida Panthers (12-10-1) will play the second tilt of a six-game homestand when they face the Calgary Flames (8-14-3) in matinée action from Amerant Bank Arena in suburban Sunrise.

Florida got off to a good start against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night, opening up a 2-0 lead on goals from Brad Marchand and Carter Verhaeghe, both off sweet primary assists courtesy of Sam Bennett. Unfortunately, the Cats drifted off to sleep after that and the Flyers quickly tied things up when Emil Andrae and Matvei Michkov scored second period markers 3:16 apart. With overtime looming, Tyson Foerster sniped Sergei Bobrovsky through traffic with 46 seconds remaining in regulation and Sean Couturier added an insurance goal 21 seconds later to give the visiting Flyers a 4-2 victory.

While the Panthers were falling to Philadelphia, the Flames had their season-high three-game winning streak snapped in a 5-1 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena. The surging Bolts made short work of Dustin Wolf, chasing him with three goals in 5:52 of game action. Declan Carlile beat reliever Devin Cooley 4:09 later before Joel Farabee finally got the Flames on the board with a shorthanded goal early in the third period. Nazem Kadri leads Calgary in scoring with 18 points. Former Panthers favorite Jonathan Huberdeau has put 12 points (4G/8A) in 20 games played.
