Notes:

Defenseman Steven Kampfer, who hasn’t played since April 7th, could return to action tonight…Despite coach Gerard Gallant hinting at “surprises” regarding his Game 4 lineup, Vincent Trocheck isn’t expected back until at least Game 5 and captain Willie Mitchell will not play either. I suppose that means, in addition to the possibility of Kampfer, we could see Logan Shaw and/or Quinton Howden make their postseason debut or Jakub Kindl might return to the blue line. A start from backup goaltender Al Montoya seems highly improbable. Of course, the “surprises” could simply turn out to be a shuffling of the forward lines or defensive pairings…The Islanders have not won two straight postseason games since 2002, when they took Game 3 and Game 4 against the Toronto Maple Leafs in a series they eventually lost in seven.

NHL.com Preview:

The Panthers know they will have to play a desperate game to avoid trailing the series 3-1 heading into Game 5 at BB&T Center on Friday. “They’re all important this time of the year,” Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. “Obviously it’s a big game for us, but if things don’t go well the next game, we’ve still got three more to win in a row. You take it (for) what it is and see what happens, but I hope we’re going to play our best game of the series. Hopefully we can be 2-2 going back to Florida.” (More)

Yahoo.com Preview:

”We had a good shift and grinded them out a little bit,” [Isles’ forward Thomas] Hickey said. ”Somebody went to change, I saw a gap, and an unbelievable pass and (it) just got off my stick.” Hickey’s description of the overtime shift could be used for the entire series. The Islanders rallied from a 3-2 deficit to grind out a 5-4 victory in Game 1, and Hickey’s winner may not have happened if not for a coach’s challenge that wiped out Florida’s third goal. The Panthers seemed to take a 3-0 lead in the second period on an Aaron Ekblad tally, but it was overturned after video showed Florida was offside. (More)
