Notes:

As of Sunday a.m. Nick Bjugstad is day-to-day (upper body) and did not travel with the team to New York, so we’ll take a great leap and assume he’s out. Jaromir Jagr has not scored a goal in 36 straight playoff appearances; stats over the last 5 games: 2A, minus-2, 17S. Other notables in this series without lighting the lamp: Jonathan Huberdeau (2A/25S) & Jiri Hudler (1A/3S). Not much question Gerard Gallant will have to dig a bit deeper into his tool chest for some much-needed offensive help, as the Cats are 1-3 in 1-goal matches so far. The power play is another area of concern with Florida posting a dreadful 2-for-12 record with the man advantage. On a happier note, the last Panthers team to trail 3-2 heading to Game 6 was the 1996 variety, blasting off two straight victories to wipe out the (heavily favored) Penguins en route to a Stanley Cup Final appearance.

NHL.com Preview:

Florida heads to New York with its season on the line despite outplaying the Islanders for the majority of the series. “They’re playing really well, we’re down 3-2,” Panthers coach Gerard Gallant said. “So we keep continuing to play, you work hard, you hope you get a few breaks here or there. We haven’t had many breaks go our way so far. So we’ve just got to keep working, stay with it and keep playing our game. “I can’t tell them to play much better. They’re playing their game, they’re working hard and they’re competing. It’s not like we’re not playing well.” (More)

Yahoo.com Preview:

The wild-card Islanders can clinch before a home crowd that tuned in with sweaty palms for Friday’s 2-1 double-overtime win in Florida. They lost in seven games to Washington last season and in six to Pittsburgh in 2013 for their only playoff appearances since ’07. “This is the first time we’re going back with three wins and a chance to close it out at home,” Frans Nielsen told the team’s official website after scoring his third goal of the series in the first period. “Hopefully we’re going to come out and respond the right way.” (More)
