The Florida Panthers (47-29-4) will play their finale home game of the rgular season when the host New York Rangers (37-36-7) tonight at Amerant Bank Arena.
Despite resting Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart, the Panthers eked out a 3-2 shootout victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday to extend their winning streak to three games. Carter Verhaeghe had a hand in both tallies with a goal and an assist and Jesse Puljujärvi notched his first as Panther. Anton Lundell scored in the opening round of the shootout and Vitek Vanecek made it stand up with saves on Jack Quinn, J.J. Peterka and Alex Tuch.
In a development that would’ve been unfathomable at the beginning of the season, last year’s Presidents’ Trophy-winners are playing out the string after being elimanted from playoff contention after getting hammered 7-3 by the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Following tonight’s tilt with the Panthers, the Rangers will take on Tampa Bay on Thursday in a game that could decide how things shake out in the Atlantic Division.
