Gameday 56: Florida Panthers vs Ottawa Senators

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

After sweeping a three-game road trip, the Florida Panthers (36-15-4) will be back on home ice when they face the Ottawa Senators (23-27-2) at Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers come into tonight’s tilt as the NHL’s hottest team. They have won five straight and boast a 9-1 record in their last ten games. On Saturday, the Cats crushed the Tampa Bay Lightning 9-2 at Amalie Arena, setting a franchise record for most goals scored in a road game. Sam Bennett (2G/2A), Matthew Tkachuk (2G/2A), and Carter Verhaeghe (2G/1A) combined for 11 points in the rout.

Like the Panthers, the Senators posted a win over Tampa Bay at Amalie Arena in their last outing. Former Bolt Mathieu Joseph scored twice and Tim Stutzle registered a goal and assist to lead Ottawa to a 4-2 decision over the Lightning last night. The Senators are playing better as of late, with a 6-3-1 record in their last games, but they remain stuck in last place in the Atlantic Division, sixteen points out of a playoff spot. Anton Forsberg (23 saves) got the win in Tampa, so the Cats will likely see veteran Joonas Korpisalo between the pipes tonight.
