The Florida Panthers (10-3-1) host the Philadelphia Flyers (5-8-1) this evening at Amerant Bank Arena in the second of a five-game homestand.
After taking a four-day break to recover from its successful trip to Finland, the red-hot Panthers returned to action with an impressive 6-2 victory over the Nashville Predators on Thursday. Carter Verhaeghe produced his first multigoal game of the season and added an assist in the one-sided affair that saw Sam Reinhart, Matthew Tkachuk, Evan Rodrigues, and Tomas Nosek also light the lamp. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 16 of 18 shots, Aleksander Barkov had three helpers and the Cats went 2 for 7 on the power play.
While the Panthers were beating up on the Predators, the Flyers edged the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in shootout at Amalie Arena. Former Florida prospect Owen Tippett scored with 4:16 left in regulation and then notched the clinching goal in the skills competition. Ivan Fedotov made 22 saves through overtime and stopped Gage Goncalves and Victor Hedman to in the shootout to get his first NHL win as Philadelphia snapped a two-game skid.
