Fresh off a rough six-game road trip, the Florida Panthers (42-25-3) will open an extended three-game homestand stand when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins (29-32-10) tonight at Amerant Bank Arena.
Florida will be looking to shake off an ugly 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals last night in the nartion’s capital. Despite some awful “defending,” the Cats got out of the first period tied before the NHL’s top team pulled away early in the middle frame. Sam Bennett, Seth Jones and Jonah Gadjovich scored for the Panthers. Jones’ goal was his first as Panther and Nico Sturm picked up his first point for his new club by setting up Gadjovich’s marker.
After having its second season-high four-game winning streak of the season ended by the New York Islanders on Tuesday, the Penguins bounced back by crushing the Columbus Blue Jackets by a 6-3 count at PPG Paints Arena on Friday. Pittsburgh is most likely not going to the playoffs, but their 5-1 record since the trade deadline shows they aren’t giving up on the idea. The Penguins trail Montreal, who currently hold the second wild card, by seven points and have played two games more than the Canadiens.
