The reeling Florida Panthers (12-9-1) host the division-leading Toronto Maple Leafs (13-6-2) this evening at Amerant Bank Arena to close out a three-game homestand.
After dominating league-leading Winnipeg 5-0 on November 16, the Panthers have dropped consecutive games to the Jets, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche and Washington Capitals, scoring just nine times during the losing streak. Defenseman Niko Mikkola was the only Cat to light the lamp in Monday’s disappointing 4-1 loss to the Ovechkin-less Capitals as the Panthers wasted a quality start from Spencer Knight. Sam Reinhart saw his 13-game point streak come to end against stingy Logan Thompson.
The well-rested Maple Leafs come into tonight’s tilt riding a four-game winning streak that has allowed them to pass the flagging Panthers in the standings. In their last outing on Sunday, the surging Buds parlayed a strong second period into a 3-2 victory over the visiting Utah Hockey Club. Leading scorer Mitch Marner tallied twice and Joseph Woll stopped 24 shots to give Toronto a 7-2-1 record over its last ten.
