The Florida Panthers (44-26-4) open their final homestand of the regular season tonight at Amerant Bank Arena against the Toronto Maple Leafs (47-25-4), looking to snap a five-game losing streak.
Missing their four leading scorers as well as defensemen Aaron Ekblad, Dmitry Kulikov and Gustav Forsling, the Panthers put forth a solid effort considering in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena. Mackie Samoskevich bounced a shot in off Anton Lundell to end Cam Talbot’s shutout bid with 40 seconds remaining and Vitek Vanecek was pretty good, finishing with 22 saves.
With a four-point lead over second place Tampa Bay, Toronto’s magic number for claiming the Atlantic Division crown currently stands at nine points. The Maple Leafs have won four in a row, including a dominant 5-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday. After doing battle with the Panthers, the Buds will take on the Bolts tomorrow night at Amalie Arena.
