Gameday 18: Florida Panthers vs Winnipeg Jets

Graphic design: Francisco Oporta

The Florida Panthers (11-5-1) host the league-leading Winnipeg Jets (15-2-0) this evening at Amerant Bank Arena to close out a five-game homestand.

After winning the first two games of the homestand to extend to its winning streak to seven, things took a bad turn for the Cats, who dropped back-to-back games to the New Jersey Devils, getting outscored 10-4 in the process. Jesper Bratt scored three times and Florida surrendered three power-play goals in Thursday night’s 6-2 loss. Jesper Boqvist and Sam Reinhart were only the Panthers who managed to beat Jake Allen. Reinhart’s goal upped his point streak to nine games and thanks to his primary assist, captain Aleksander Barkov bumped his to seven games.

The Jets, who are the only NHL team to hit 30 point thus far, saw its seven-game winning streak come to end due to a 4-1 defeat to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. It was their first loss on the road this season. Kyle Connor leads Winnipeg in goals (11) and points (22) while Connor Hellebuyck is tracking for a second-straight Vezina Trophy. The Jets will host the Panthers on Tuesday night at Canada Life Centre to quickly conclude this season series.
