NHL Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Wednesday Open Forum
Hawryluk and Montembeault sign new deals (allegedly)
According to CapFriendly, the Florida Panthers have re-signed restricted free agents Jayce Hawryluk and Samuel Montembeault.
Both players have reportedly inked one-year, two-way deals with Hawryluk’s counting for $874,125 at the NHL level and Montembeault’s coming in at a team-friendly $708,750. Each contract pays $70K at the AHL level.
We still await official word of these new contracts from the team.
The Panthers remaining unsigned RFAs are MacKenzie Weegar (arbitration hearing July 22), Ian McCoshen, Denis Malgin, Dryden Hunt and Thomas Schemitsch. Maxim Mamin was also qualified, but is expected to remain in the KHL.
Word on the street is that Hall-of-Famer Ron Francis will become the first GM of the Seattle ??? very soon. (Seattle Times)
The Ottawa Senators sent Zack Smith to the Chicago Blackhawks for Artem Anisimov in a deal with some financial ramifications for both clubs. (Silver Seven) (Second City Hockey)
Ottawa also signed 2019 first-rounder Lassi Thomson to an entry-level contract. The Senators took the defenseman 19th overall. (Silver Seven)
The Washington Capitals re-signed Jakub Vrana to a two-year contract worth $6.7 million. Vrana produced career-highs in goals (24), assists (23) and points (47) last season. (Japers’ Rink)
The Minnesota Wild signed forwards Ryan Donato and Nico Sturm and defenseman Carson Soucy to new contracts. (Hockey Wilderness)
Ben Thomas signed a new one-year, one-way contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Thomas has spent the entirety of his pro career with the Syracuse Crunch, so far. (Tampa Bay Lightning)
The Los Angeles Kings re-signed goaltender Cal Petersen to a three-year deal worth $2.575 million. Petersen went 5-4-1 in 11 games with the Kings in 2018-19. (Jewels From The Crown)
Connor Carrick re-upped with the New Jersey Devils, signing a two-year contract worth $3 million. Carrick put up 7 points in 20 games with the Devils last year. (All About The Jersey)
