Thursday Offseason Caterwaul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

We draw another day closer to the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft to stock the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Cats have until 3 p.m. Saturday to make any moves before a league-wide roster freeze goes into effect. Protected lists for all 30 teams are due in to NHL Central Registry two hours later.

As we know, the Panthers will lose one player to the Golden Knights with most speculating that the player will be one of its defensemen, either Alex Petrovic, Mark Pysyk or Jason Demers. Some mock drafts have goaltender James Reimer as one heading to Sin City.

While the Cats have been quiet, their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds have been busy getting ready for the 2017-18 season. The Thunderbirds have signed the following seven players to AHL one-way deals: forwards Francois Beauchemin, Matt Buckles, Ryan Horvat and Anthony Greco; defensemen Matt MacKenzie and Ed Wittchow; and goaltender Evan Cowley.
