Vegas 2, Colorado 1 (Tuesday)

Mark Stone and Cole Smith scored the goals, and Carter Hart stopped 20 of 21 shots faced, as the Vegas Golden Knights advanced to the Stanley Cup Final for the third time in franchise history with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final at T-Mobile Arena. The Golden Knights, who won the series in a stunning sweep, will be looking for its second title. Gabriel Landeskog scored with 2:03 remaining in regulation to halve the deficit, and Mackenzie Blackwood made 24 saves in his first start of the series for the Avalanche, who were this season’s Presidents’ Trophy winners.

IIHF World Championship

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk scored his fourth goal of the tournament in the United States’ 4-1 must-win over Austria in Zurich. The victory vaulted the Americans over Germany and Austria and into the quarterfinals, where they will take on arch-rival Canada on Thursday. Tkachuk played 16:38, was credited with one shot on goal, and finished the game with an even rating.

Sandis Vilmanis continued to shine for Latvia in an 8-1 laugher over Hungary. Vilmanis scored shorthanded and on the power play and also had an assist for the Latvia, who will face Norway in the quarterfinals. He matched Rudolfs Balcers with a game-high five shots, played 22:28, and posted a plus-two rating. Vilmanis leads Latvia in scoring with 11 points (4G/7A) in seven games.

Aleksander Barkov scored both of Finland’s goals, his first two of the tournament, in a hard-fought 4-2 loss to host Switzerland in Zurich. Barkov logged 19:42 of ice time, registered four shots on Reto Berra, won 9 of 15 face-offs, and finished the tilt with an even rating. He was named Best Player of the game for the Finns, who will face Czechia in the quarterfinals.

Panthers prospect Marek Alscher opened the scoring with his second goal of the tournament in Czechia’s 3-2 loss to Canada in Fribourg. The 22-year-old defenseman logged 15:24 of ice time, registered one shot on goal, and finished with a minus-two rating.
