The rebuilding San Jose Sharks acquired prized goalie prospect Yaroslav Askarov, forward Nolan Burke and a 2025 third-round pick originally belonging to the Colorado Avalanche from the Nashville Predators for forward David Edstrom, a 2025 conditional first-round pick belonging to the Vegas Golden Knights and goaltender Magnus Chrona.
Immediately after the trade, Askarov inked a two-year contract extension worth $2 million annually that will keep him under contract through the 2026-27 season. He will play this seasin under the final year of his entry-level deal.
The 11th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Askarov posted a 30-13-1 record with a 2.39 GAA, .911 save percentage and six shutouts with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals last season.
He has played in a total of three NHL games, going 1-1, with the Predators since being drafted.
The St. Louis Blues signed defenseman Quinton Burns to an entry-level contract. Burns was selected in the third round (74th overall) of the 2023 Draft. The 19-year-old produced six goals and 35 points in 58 games with the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs last season.
