Weekend ‘Waul: Florida Panthers Open Forum

Florida Panthers prospect Stepan Gorbunov centered the first line and scored his team’s final goal in Chelyabinsk Belye Mevedi’s 6-3 loss to Stalnye Lisy in action from Russia’s MHL on Friday. It was his second goal of the young season. Gorbunov was selected in the sixth round (169th overall) of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

The two teams played again this morning with Stalnye Lisy earning a tight 2-1 win. Gorbunov assisted on Belye Mevedi’s only goal, giving him three points (2G/1A) in four games.

Goaltender Denis Gabdrakhmanov made his first start of the season and a posted a win in Tyumensky Legion’s 4-3 shootout victory over Mamonty Yugry in MHL action. Gabdrakhmanov, Florida’s seventh round choice in 2024, made 52 saves and denied four of six shooters once the game went to penalty shots.

Defenseman Ludvig Jansson played on the third pairing and went scoreless in Lulea HF’s 3-2 shootout loss to Timra IK in an exhibition game between the two Swedish Hockey League squads. Jansson was chosen by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2022 draft.

Linus Eriksson centered the third line and went scoreless in Djurgårdens IF’s 4-1 win over Norwegian side Valerenga in a preseason game. Eriksson was selected in the second round (58th overall) of the 2024 draft.

Defenseman Albert Wikman saw action and went scoreless in Södertälje SK’s 4-3 shootout loss to AIK in a preseason game between the two HockeyAllsvenskan clubs. Wikman was selected by the Cats in the fourth round of the 2023 draft.

The Ottawa Senators have signed forward Nikolay Kulemin and defenseman Calen Addison to professional tryout agreements. Kulemin, 38, has spent the last six season in the KHL. He last played in the NHL for the New York Islanders during the 2017-18 campaign. Addison toiled for the Minnesota Wild and San Jose Sharks in 2023-24, producing 17 points in 72 games.
