Friday Recap: Florida Panthers at the IIHF World Championship, Day Eight

Brain Campbell was a part of a smothering defensive effort as Canada beat Belarus by a 4-1 count today in Helsinki. The Florida Panthers defender had one shot on goal and finished with a -1 rating while logging 18:41minutes of ice time. Campbell was on the ice when Belarus' Alexei Yefimenko scored the final goal of the game in the third period. Ryan O'Reilly, Andrew Ladd, Steven Stamkos and Claude Giroux provided the goals for Canada. Devan Dubnyk only had to make nine saves to post the win. Canada won its third-straight game and has given up just six goals in five preliminary round games.
Tomas Kopecky took one shot on goal, finished with a +1 rating and was called for a tripping minor while logging 16:55 minutes of first line duty during Slovakia's 2-1 shootout loss to Austria today in Helsinki. Kopecky was on the ice when Tomas Surovy scored in the first period to stake the Slovaks to a 1-0 lead. Gerhard Unterluggauer replied for Austria in the second frame. Thomas Vanek scored the only goal in the shootout as the Austria gained two points in the standings. Bernhard Starkbaum made 42 saves to post the win.
Tomas Fleischmann (pictured) fired three shots on goal but failed to pick up his first point of the tournament during the Czech Republic's 4-2 win over Slovenia today in Stockholm. Fleischmann logged 12:48 of ice time and finished the tilt with an even rating. The Czechs scored all of their goals on specials teams, notching three on the power play and one shorthanded. Slovenia jumped ahead 2-1 in the first period before Jiri Hudler scored to even the game with 43 seconds left in the frame. Zbynek Michalek scored the winner and Jiri Novotny netted the clincher in the third period.
