Hurricanes advance / World Championship GameThread

The Carolina Hurricanes crushed the Montreal Canadiens by a 6-1 count in Game 5 in Raleigh to capture the Prince of Wales Trophy and advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since they won their one and only championship in 2006. Taylor Hall and Logan Stankoven each had a goal and two assists, Jackson Blake and Seth Jarvis each added a goal and a helper, and Frederik Andersen made 23 saves for the 12-1 Hurricanes. Andersen lowered his postseason goals against average to miserly 1.41. Cole Caufield scored the only goal for the Canadiens, and Jakub Dobes finished with 24 saves. The Hurricanes will host the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 1 on Tuesday.

IIHF World Championship

Florida Panthers Aleksander Barkov (2G/7A), Anton Lundell (4G/2A) and the rest of Team Finland will take on undefeated Canada this afternoon at Swiss Life Arena in Zurich in semifinal action from the 2026 IIHF World Championship. The early seminfinal pits host Switzerland against surprising Norway.

Memorial Cup

Panthers prospect Shea Busch and the Everett Silvertips advanced to the final of the 2026 Memorial Cup in Kelowna, British Columbia with a 6-1 semifinal win over the Chicoutimi Saguenéens. Busch collected his first point of the tournament with an assist on Landon DuPont’s first period goal that put Everett up 2-1. He registered five shots on goal, took a tripping minor, and finished the game with a plus-two rating. The Silvertips will take on the Kitchener Rangers on Sunday at 4 p.m.
