Florida Panthers waive veteran Jussi Jokinen

The Florida Panthers have placed veteran forward Jussi Jokinen on waivers with the intention of buying out the final year of his contract.

If Jokinen goes unclaimed, the Cats will pay him 23 of the $4 million they owe him spread out over the next two years. So,  Jokinen will carry  a $1.333m cap hit the next two seasons.

After an impressive 2015-16 campaign that saw the Finn put up 60 points in 81 games, he slumped to 28 points (11G/17A) in 69 games last season, costing him a spot on the roster.

The Panthers lost Jonathan Marchessault and Reilly Smith to the Vegas Golden Knights last week, so cutting ties with Jokinen makes addressing the wing position even a bigger priority in free agency.
