Kuba Helper Not Enough For Vitkovice

Florida Panthers defenseman Filip Kuba (pictured in Senators garb) notched his second assist of the season during a 5-3 road loss to Bili Tygri Liberec in Friday action from the Czech Extraliga. Kuba set up a second period goal by Rudolf Huna and finished the tilt with a -1 rating. He was also called for minor penalty in the first period.

Michal Barta staked Liberec to a 1-0 at the 5:27 mark of the opening period. Tomas Pospisil and Ladislav Smid collected assists on the 4-on-3 power play goal. Rudolf Huna scored an unassisted goal at 16:45 to tie things up for visiting Vitkovice. Radek Duda restored the lead for Liberec just eighty seconds later by converting a feed from Tomas Filippi.

Liberec took control of the game in the first half of the second period. Jan Visek and Antonin Dusek scored even strength goals to make the score 4-1 for the home team. Later in the period, Kuba combined with Ondrej Roman to set up Huna’s second goal of the game to pull Vitkovice within two heading to the final period.

Rudolf Huna would return the favor early in the third frame, setting up Roman to close the gap to 4-3 but Vitkovice would fail come up with the equalizer the rest of the way. Dalibor Bortnak would knock in the empty net clincher for Liberec with forty seconds remaining on the clock.

Roman Malek took the loss in goal for Vitkovice while Marek Pinc turned aside 33 shots to post the win for Liberec.

Marcel Goc sat out Adler Mannheim’s 3-2 overtime loss to Krefeld Pinguine on Friday.

Dmitry Kulikov missed Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s 3-2 win over Salavat Ufa on Friday.
