Kuba: No Points, Even Rating In 6-5 Loss

Florida Panthers defenseman Filip Kuba (pictured in Ottawa garb) posted an even rating and picked up a minor penalty during a 6-5 road loss to HC Mountfield in Sunday action from the Czech Extraliga. The defeat dropped Vitkovice Steel to tenth place in the standings.

HC Mountfield exploded for three goals in the first 7:37 of the game to chase Steel goaltender Roman Malek. Ladislav Kohn scored the first goal and set up the other two which were netted by Ales Kotalik and Jiri Simanek. Filip Sindelar replaced Malek and Vitkovice settled down, closing the gap to a single goal after Jiri Burger and Peter Huzevka scored before the end of the frame.

In the second period, Mountfield would dominate again, extending the lead to 6-2 on two goals from Vaclav Prospal and another by Martin Hanzal. Kotalik assisted on two of the goals and finished the game with four points. Marek Bartanus got one back for Vitkovice with just under two minutes left in the period.

Vitkovice would rally again in the third period. Peter Huzevka scored his second of the game and Rudolf Huna lit lamp with 1:17 remaining on the clock to make the score 6-5. Vitkovice pulled Sindelar but couldn’t come up with the equalizer.

Dmitry Kulikov missed Lokomotiv Yaroslavl’s 3-1 win over Niznekamsk on Sunday.
