One thing is for sure: Logan Shaw is a big body, and he is not afraid to use his size around the net and in corners. One other thing that is equally sure is that Shaw is overshadowed in popularity among Panther fans by the likes of Quinton Howden, Rocco Grimaldi, and Vincent Trocheck.
The good news for the young right wing, and the Panthers, is that Shaw greatly improved his offensive output last season in his first full year in the AHL. In 2013-14, Logan split time between San Antonio and Cincinnati, putting up 1 goal and 7 assists in 46 AHL games. In 69 AHL games in 2014-15, he vastly improved his offensive output with 13 goals and 12 assists.

Shaw has made significant progress with San Antonio in his second pro season. With the ideal size of an NHL winger and the willingness to play in high traffic areas he could provide nice depth to the Panthers forward corps if he continues to develop at his present rate. Though he is unlikely to match the two 26-goal seasons he had during his junior career, Shaw is fourth on the Rampage with 13 goals. At the same time, he plays a solid positional game in his own end of the ice.
Shaw benefits from playing a position that the Panthers are very thin at on the depth chart. Only two other right wings are presently even on the Panthers depth chart (Joe Wegwerth and Chris Wilkie), and both are miles away from being professionals. There simply were not many options to compare him with when examining the Top 25 Under 25 depth chart. The problem with Logan is whether he gets rated higher because of the positional scarcity at RW, or whether he must be compared with all other prospects at all positions. Shane, myself, and Donny compared Shaw with all others, while Kevin and Todd considered him with at least a side glance at others at his position.
Nonetheless, for his professional journey, this all bodes well if the 22-year old can continue to build upon his AHL success from last season. With his contract also coming to an end at the conclusion of the 2015-16 season, Shaw has a lot to play for this winter in Portland.
