Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar has elected salary arbitration

Florida Panthers defenseman MacKenzie Weegar was one of 26 NHL players to elect salary arbitration.

Since finishing his entry-level contract, Weegar has played the last three seasons on a series of one-year deals and made $1.6 million last year after agreeing to terms with the Cats before his arbitration hearing was held.

During the truncated 2019-20 season, Weegar, 26, played in 45 regular games and set new career-high in goals (7) and points (18) while matching his career-high in assists (11).

He played in all four games of Florida’s qualifying round loss to the New York Islanders.
