After playing a back-to-back games over the weekend and accumulating three points, the Florida Panthers get a much-needed break, not playing again until Thursday night when they host the Washington Capitals at FLA Live Arena.
The club’s AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers went 1-2 over the weekend, dropping a Friday night decision in Providence before bouncing back with win on Saturday in Hartford and then finishing its road trip with a loss to a familiar name, the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Providence 4, Charlotte 3
Grigori Denisenko, Maxim Mamin and Henry Bowlby all scored their first goals of the season in the loss. Bowlby’s third period marker at 15:32 cut the deficit down to one, but the Checkers could not come up with the equalizer against the Bruins. In addition to scoring, Mamim drew an assist. Defenseman Lucas Carlsson had two helpers and Matt Kiersted had one. Christopher Gibson took the loss, finishing with 31 saves.
Charlotte 3, Hartford 2
Serron Noel and Cole Schwindt scored their first goals of the season in the first period and veteran Scott Wilson notched the eventual game-winner in the second as the Checkers held on to defeat the Wolf Pack. Logan Hutsko collected his fifth assist of the season and Schwindt and Matt Keirsted also picked up helpers. Seattle prospect Antoine Bibeau made 21 stops to get the win.
Springfield 5, Charlotte 3
Logan Hutsko, Maxim Mamin, and Cole Schwindt each bagged their second goals of the campaign in the two-goal loss to the Thunderbirds. Serron Noel was the only Panthers prospect to draw an assist. Christopher Gibson made 34 saves as the Checkers dropped to 3-3-1.
- Logan Hutsko is second on the Checkers in scoring behind Kraken prospect Alexander True (8 points) with two goals and five assists in seven games.
- Maxim Mamin (2G/3A) and Lucas Carlsson (1G/4A) each have five points in seven games.
- Cole Schwindt (2G/1A), Matt Kiersterd (1G/2A) and Serron Noel (1G/2A) each have put up three points.
- Christopher Gibson is 1-3 with a 4.33 GAA and .882 save percentage. /
