Monday Caterwaul: Golden Knights eliminate Oilers

Former Florida Panthers forward Jonathan Marchessault poured in a natural hat trick during the second period to lead the Vegas Golden Knights to a 5-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place, ending the series in six games.

Another ex-Cat Reilly Smith opened the scoring, William Karlsson found the empty net, and Adin Hill made 38 saves to help eliminate the Oilers.

Edmonton’s goals came from Warren Foegele and Connor McDavid. Stuart Skinner (13 saves on 17 shots) was pulled after the middle frame. Jack Campbell stopped all four of the shots he saw in relief during the third period.

The Golden Knights await the winner of tonight’s deciding between the Dallas Stars and Seattle Kraken (ESPN 8 p.m.).
